Abu Dhabi is taking a bold step into the future of transportation with the launch of self-driving Ubers. Autonomous ride-hailing is now a reality in the capital, ushering in a new era of smart mobility.
This cutting-edge service, introduced in collaboration with global leader WeRide, is the first of its kind outside the United States.
Where Can You Ride?
Currently, the service is available on Saadiyat Island, Yas Island (perfect timing for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix), and routes to and from Zayed International Airport. Additional regions are expected to join the network soon.
How Does It Work?
Passengers can book autonomous rides by selecting WeRide vehicles under UberX or Uber Comfort for eligible trips. During the initial phase, a safety operator will accompany each ride to ensure a smooth and secure experience.
What’s Next?
This launch is only the beginning. Fully driverless services are set to debut in 2025, marking the next phase in Abu Dhabi’s journey toward smarter, more sustainable transportation solutions.

Dr. Abdulla Al Ghafli, acting director-general of the Integrated Transport Centre, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
