Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) has entered into a strategic agreement with Westinghouse Electric Company to explore the deployment of advanced nuclear energy technologies in the United States.
The agreement, signed in Washington, D.C., aims to accelerate the rollout of the AP1000 reactor — a fully licensed, construction-ready nuclear technology. This initiative aligns with U.S. ambitions to significantly expand nuclear power capacity by 2050, in response to rising electricity demand driven by the growth of AI and other high-tech industries.
The collaboration will focus on developing new nuclear build and restart projects across the U.S., alongside commercial deployment models, nuclear fuel supply chains, and long-term operations and maintenance services.
In a related development, ENEC also signed a fuel supply agreement with Framatome to provide nuclear fuel assemblies and engineering services for the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE, further ensuring its long-term operational stability.
This partnership strengthens the longstanding energy ties between the UAE and the U.S., and supports ENEC’s broader global strategy to contribute to clean, secure, and sustainable energy solutions worldwide.
